Margarita Island, Venezuela
A little island just a short flight north of Caracas, Venezuela where tourists are treated like royalty and shopping is a major activity. Flights to Angel Falls are available from the island. From Angel Falls camps, at night, you can view millions of stars and get a clear view of the Milky Way! Being so close to the equator, with the horizon so low, you will see wonderful sunsets and crystal clear views of the stars. The Big Dipper and the Southern Cross are also visible at the same time! (Click here if your firewall prevents you from accessing the Southern Cross from their web site)

When you arrive in the jungle to trek to Angel Falls, one is really on a jungle trek!! There is no air conditioning and the water used for showers is the tannic acid-filled water of the local area. It is clean, and great for swimming, but carries a discoloration from all the jungle trees in the area. The cabins are neat and clean and have ceiling fans. You know you are NOT in an American luxury hotel!
