Mr. Kaufman's desk
Notice the cutout in the desk? Frank Lloyd Wright had already planned the air flow for the house when he received a message that Mr. Kaufman required a larger desk. Mr. Wright relayed the message that he could not enlarge the desk because of this design.
Mr. Kaufman sent a reply that if the architect was unable to provide a larger desk, the client would be unable to sign the check! Frank Lloyd Wright then compromised with the above desk, unwilling to sacrifice the air flow design!
Notice the dropped-down ceiling next to the windows? Mr. Wright designed small bedrooms for sleeping and dressing, providing grand open living areas for family interaction. The dropped ceilings gave an optical illusion of a larger space.
